On Sunday March 24, 2019 at the Spanish Town chapel, members of the Kingston Jamaica Stake attended the ground breaking activity for temple and family history for this year.

This activity was in the form of a fireside, which aimed to encourage all members to hold and use a valid temple recommend and do family history search. This aim was aligned to the Caribbean Area Plan of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Testimonies from members of all the wards and branches from the Kingston Jamaica Stake permeated this event. These were categorised on topics related to temple and family history work; each category ending with a song from various wards and groups, which cemented the respective theme.

Some of the themes spoken of and sung about included Jesus Christ is our Redeemer, Preparing to enter the Temple, keeping our covenants, and receiving help from our ancestors.

President Barney, First Councillor in the Stake Mission Presidency, encouraged the members to attend the temple to obtain four things – knowledge from Heavenly Father through the Holy Ghost, instructions to help with personal righteousness, to learn how to treat others, and to help our ancestors. He also told the members that now is our hour, and time to shine; the temple is the thing to do.

The organizers of the fireside, had hoped that there would be about one hundred members in attendance, however, there was a whopping turnout of over two hundred and ninety members.

Attendees reported that the event was spirit-filled and they are more enthused to do temple and family history work.
