Church Statement in the aftermath of Dorian over the Caribbean

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is working to attend the needs of the affected in Bahamas

The Church of Jesus Christ have released the following statement in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Dorian over the Caribbean:

Hurricane Dorian, a catastrophic storm, has affected parts of the Caribbean. While the storm continues to move north along the east coast of the United States significant loss of life and severe damage to property has occurred, especially in the Bahamas.

We can confirm the well-being of all of our missionaries serving in the Bahamas area. Many are assisting members who are taking shelter in one of our chapels.

The Church building at Grand Bahama has been converted into a shelter and 50 Church members at the moment are taking refuge there. All other Church members, save one family in Abaco, have either evacuated or been contacted and are safe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have been impacted by the hurricane. We encourage residents in the affected area to listen to calls for appropriate response following this weather emergency. For those who did not get out of the path of the hurricane, their needs remain great to sustain life including; tents, clothing, medical supplies, canned food, water building supplies, hygiene kits, first aid kits, flashlights, and battery-operated lanterns.
